Summer Haze & Wild Blooms: A Soft 70s Inspired Wedding Photo Shoot

A Grow Wild Studios summer inspired styled shoot wrapped in sunlight and local flowers

A woman in a white dress holds a vibrant bouquet, smiling in a flowery meadow. Blurred movement creates a joyful, dreamy feel.

They chose to celebrate their union simply - connected to the earth, surrounded by the things that make them feel most present. A wildflower field in late summer, a table set as if for an afternoon gathering amongst their closest friends, and a handful of modern touches tucked gently inside a 70s-inspired dream was the perfect setting to show the simple joy of their love for one another. No grand venue. No towering installations.

The evening began with the soft haze of golden hour lingering through the petals, casting the nostalgic glow that imprints instantly into your memory, as if it had always been there.

She wore a delicate white dress with a bow that fluttered as she moved. Casting an effortless silhouette, it was as if she had just stepped out of a sun-washed photograph from 1974. He, in warm neutrals, looked like he was at home in the meadow, as if he were exactly where he always was meant to be.

The table is set with tinted glassware, floral-patterned chargers, beeswax candles, and  eclectic vases - the kinds of treasures gathered from antique sales and family cupboards, yet styled with a modern clarity and refinement. A small bottle of honey at each place setting, lavender napkins, and a garden-picked arrangement of cosmos, rudbeckia, amaranth, and feathered greenery welcome guests to a timeless celebration of the two beloveds.

In contrast to the still beauty of the setting, it was the way she moved through the field that defined the day. Running her fingers along tall grasses, brushing past blooms that bent slightly to greet her, she looked like a woman slipping in and out of time. Every step stirred color - vibrant hues and soft whites whirling around her skirts as if the meadow itself were celebrating.  She personified past, present, and future in a vision of pure joy and love.

Hand in hand, they walked up the narrow path carved into the hillside. She carried a bouquet of locally foraged textures, loose and wild, something the land gifted to her. In this moment, there was only the two of them processing through the flowers. No aisle, no arch, just them and the local flora united in celebration.

Inspired by the smaller, more personal, more “this is who we are” spirit of the 70s, their vision was a modern moment with borrowed classics: intentional, sustainable, deeply felt.

The light shifted gently and the wildflowers swayed as the vows were exchanged in private. Somewhere between then and now, between vintage and modern, between the way things were and the way they dreamed life to be, they found the kind of day that doesn’t try too hard, because it doesn’t need to.

The perfect sort of day the heart remembers the way summer remembers sunlight: easily, fully, forever.

From Concept to Reality

There’s a certain magic in weddings that lean into simplicity—where the focus turns toward connection, nature, and the feeling of being fully present. This styled shoot captured that spirit through a vintage 70s-inspired backyard wedding set not in a yard at all, but in the heart of a wildflower field. The result is a celebration that feels both nostalgic and modern all at once.

The palette began with what reflected the time of year and what would be growing locally in the field itself: swaying cosmos, golden rudbeckia, feathery grasses, and pockets of bright summer color.

The tablescape was set to enhance the tone. Amber and blush glassware caught the warm evening light, beeswax candles added a soft glow, and patterned chargers grounded everything in a vintage sensibility. We kept the styling intimate and understated—just as a small backyard wedding of the 1970s might have been—yet refined it with fresh, modern touches.

Each place setting held a small bottle of local honey and a lavender napkin as a nod to the handmade, homegrown wedding favors that were popular in the past. The florals were designed as if they had been gathered that very morning: airy, wild, and full of movement. All 100% locally sourced from flower farms in the area.

We wanted the bride to feel weightless and transient as she moved through the blooms in her breezy white dress with flutter sleeves and a bow that felt lifted straight from a 70s wedding catalog. The entire scene was meant to take on a cinematic softness—warm, hazy, and sunlit. Her bouquet, filled with color and texture, needed to look as if the field itself had placed it in her hands.

The setting was perfect, creating its own aisle among the flowers. We knew a rigid structure would take away from the scene we were creating, so we used what we had: just the couple and the landscape around them. We wanted it to echo the spirit of the 70s: intimate gatherings, handmade details, and a focus on the people and the moment rather than the production.

This shoot shows how beautifully vintage and modern aesthetics can merge. A backyard wedding doesn’t need to be defined by four walls or a picket fence—it can be anywhere that feels like home. And sometimes, home is the wildflower field where the summer light hits just right.
