Stem Trimming

Remove any leaves that are under the waterline.
Fresh Water
Clean fresh water is the single most important factor in flower longevity.
Change the water every 1-2 days. Any leaves in the water should be removed and the vase should be cleaned.
Placement
Where you place your flowers has a huge impact on how long they last.
Avoid putting them near direct heat sources like radiators, heating vents or fireplaces.
No Fruit!
Ripening fruit emit ethylene gas. This speeds up the flowers lifespan.
Some fruit to avoid putting flowers near, apples, avocados, bananas, pears, and peaches.
